Alternaria species and related mycotoxin detection in Lebanese durum wheat grain

چکیده

Alternaria is a ubiquitous genus that may infect wheat in many countries, causing the disease black point. The present study aimed to assess contamination by fungi, of durum kernels from Lebanon, and identify main species contaminants. was detected majority (97%) inspected fields. Contamination differed among samples according their geographical origins. greatest West Bekaa area (average 59%), followed Akkar (55%), lowest observed Baalbeck (2%). HPLC-DAD analyses performed on grain showed altenuene, alternariol, alternariol monomethyl ether, tenuazonic acid were not any sample. Phylogenetic analyses, based DNA sequences ?-tubulin, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase calmodulin gene fragments, field strains belonged two major sections: (51%) Infectoriae (40%). remaining separate clades sections Ulocladioides (3%), Chalastospora (3%) Pseudoalternaria (3%). Although this revealed no mycotoxins, potential risk mycotoxin accumulation remains high due widespread occurrence toxigenic kernels.

Mycotoxin production by Alternaria strains isolated from Argentinean wheat.

The toxigenic potential of Alternaria strains isolated from Argentinean wheat was investigated. A total of 123 strains were assayed for the production of tenuazonic acid (TA), alternariol (AOH) and alternariol monomethyl ether (AME). All but one of the isolates were able to produce at least one of the three mycotoxins. TA was produced by 72% of the strains (1-14782 mg/kg), AOH by 87% (4-622 mg/...

Pulmonary reaction to durum wheat; a constituent of grain dust.

To identify constituents of grain dust responsible for grain handlers' respiratory symptoms, 11 volunteer grain elevator workers underwent inhalation provocation tests with extracts of durum wheat, durum wheat airborne dust, and grain insects and mites. Factors that might influence the host response to the challenge were assessed. Five of the 11 subjects showed a greater than 20 percent decreme...

Proteomics of Durum Wheat Grain during Transition to Conservation Agriculture

Nitrogen management in combination with sustainable agronomic techniques can have a great impact on the wheat grain proteome influencing its technological quality. In this study, proteomic analyses were used to document changes in the proportion of prolamins in mature grains of the newly released Italian durum wheat cv Achille. Such an approach was applied to wheat fertilized with urea (UREA) a...

Protein and lysine content, grain yield, and other technological traits in durum wheat under Mediterranean conditions.

A major problem for durum wheat production in the Mediterranean region is yield fluctuation. This fluctuation is a result of year-to-year variation in precipitation and heat stress during grain growth, which is typical of the Mediterranean climate. Both yield stability and good quality are needed in adapted durum wheat ideotypes. Ten durum wheat cultivars differing in drought resistance were gr...
